Porcelain Chinese export armorial plate from France. Crest/Coat of Arms is a Lion on one side – a Goat on the other. There is a banner that reads. “To be, rather than be seen”. Same motto is used on several different organizations. Samson Style with Cie des Indes France on back. Front of Plate is in very good condition: no visible cracks – no visible chips or repairs. On back there are two small glaze contractions – most likely from firing cones. EXTENSIVE gold leaf – which is in excellent condition. More than most plates of this style. Tiny bit of fading, maybe even scratch overs in some places. Cobalt color is in good condition. Light fading in other colored spots – minor. Back is hallmarked in script with Cie des Indes France. Back is stamped with Bailey Banks & Biddle of Philadelphia. Plate Diameter is approx 9.25 when measured. Not appraised but have conducted extensive research. This plate is either from an estate collection from BB&B, or was commissioned by them. Dating this plate at 1900’s but may be as early as 1800’s. This plate was acquired through a 38 year ago divorce and has been stored in box – and not handled – since.

Kerr & Binns Worcester Turquoise & Gold Armorial Crest Reticulated Plate 1852-62
Rare reticulated / pierced porcelain bone china dinner plate. Decorated with an armorial crest in black, gold, and red in the center above the motto Spera Semper Spera. The border is decorated in turquoise with small gold beads and raised gold stars. With gold gilding and gold highlights along the edge and to the reticulation. Scalloped gilding along the inner rim. Has an impressed Worcester mark without a crown, which was used by Kerr & Binns between 1852 and 1862. I have not been able to identical the armorial crest. The only mention of this motto I can find anything online is in a story called “The Class Ring” in an 1874 issue of Demorest’s Monthly Magazine, which translates the motto as Hope on, Hope Ever. Has crazing typical of bone china, staining of the type that may soak out, and two small hairlines to the reticulated edge, but otherwise good condition with no additional chips or cracks. Measures approximately 9 1/2 inches wide. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece.

Wonderful fine porcelain china features the stamp for Phillips London, a leading retailer of Minton (as well as Royal Worcester and Wedgwood) at the time. All of the pieces are decorated with a gold Greek Key design and additionally each piece is marked with a really nice armorial crest. Surely the set was produced for a family with status. Included are 9 pieces. Four plates measuring approximately 9″ in diameter, two 9 1/2″ in diameter, one 11″ in diameter and a large open serving bowl measuring 9 3/4″ in diameter and 5 1/4 tall. There’s also an underplate measuring 12 from handle to handle. Interestingly, the plates do not have a traditional rimmed base but are flattened on the bottom. There’s also gold trim on the bottom. They sit well and would be fine to eat from but given the odd sizing and unusual bases which would sit securely in a hand it seems likely that they are serving pieces. There’s a bit of gold trim wear but otherwise I see no chips, cracks, or repairs. Please take a look at the pictures and let me know if you have any questions at all. Also, a note to overseas buyers. This item is in the category “Pottery & Glass\Decorative Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware\Plates”. The seller is “popplebottom” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped worldwide.

Chinese Porcelain Rare Yongzheng, c. 1733 Arms of Lee of Coton Armorial Plate
CHINESE ARMORIAL EXPORT PORCELAIN COLLECTORS PIECE. 1733 Arms of Lee of Coton Armorial Plate. Arguably the most notable Armorial Plate featured among field scholars. Decorated on the rim with four very fine river scenes en grisaille. Punctuated by two reserves in rouge-de-fer and gold. The river scenes are alternately of London (view from Southwark with London Bridge in the foreground and the city on the far side of the river) and of the Pearl River just below Canton (with a fort in the foreground and wooden huts before the walls of the city on the further bank). One of three services bearing the arms of Lee of Coton, only the one service in en grisaille as shown. Perhaps the finest armorial service ever ordered by an English family. This piece has been restored and rim scenery shows signs of wear. The front displays beautifully though one can see a repaired break upon closer inspection. The back shows much of the repair work and could stand further restoration. CONDITION NOTE : Carefully examine each image for flaws, cracks, restoration, and alike. Every attempt has been made to accurately represent the item for sale and it’s condition. DIMENSIONS : 9 inches round and approximately a 1 inch drop from rim to base.
