This is a Pair of Large Chinese JARS w/ LIDS! Condition: Last picture shows 1 of the jars has 2 tiny imperfections on the surface that are close to each other- looks like something else was touching it in the kiln or from the firing process, they are minor and cause no real issues and you can turn the jar to hide them if desired… I also do not believe these are the original lids though they are exactly the same shape and size the original lids would be perhaps made special for them? Usually you see these with the matching porcelain lid decorated in white in blue just like the jar body These lids are thick heavy solid brass, they are gold and look great on them. These are 9-1/2″ tall by 7-1/2″ wide and the top rim opening is 3-1/2″ wide and overall the rim is 3-7/8″ wide. This is Decorated with a Blue Double Happiness & Rice shapes motif that is associated with Wedding Bliss… The outer area around the top rim is un-glazed and rough textured to the touch with a traditional “Ming style” technique, while the rest of the body and interior is glazed and smooth white he White glaze. These jars usually date to the Late Qing Dynasty from the late half of the 1800’s to the early part of the 1900’s. These were hand thrown pottery in the center area you can see where 2 bowls shapes were brought together and smoothed together in the center to make the body, which was necessary so it would not fall or drop in the making process.
