This is a Japanese doll from the china makers Nippon circa 1915. She is a pretty little thing with earrings and many of the characteristics of a good German-made china head doll including delicate painting, with very nice shading in the cheeks and lip and that apricot lid line of all the best German dolls. She is wearing a half slip with crinoline reinforcement in yellow and a gold trimmed yellow gown with tiny pink flower embellishments. She is very pretty. Antique 10.5 German Flat Top Civil War China Head Doll Gilt Boots Original. Gorgeous Antique Civil War China Head Doll. There is a number or letter on her back, maybe a 5 or a 6. Her body is not original but is older and very nice. Her dress appears to be old and may be original. Her boots are flat and trimmed in gold gilt. Please note the spots on the lower front and back of her dress. She is gorgeous and in excellent original condition. She may be a Kestner. Antique Kestner China Head Doll 26 Mary Todd Lincoln Golden Snood Civil War Era

A special model made as a portrait of the President’s wife at the time, this Mary Todd Lincoln doll is a prime example of the Civil War era dolls made in Germany for both the American and international markets. This big and lovely lady exhibits some of the best features that made the golden age of China doll production so magical. This pretty lady showcases crisp modeling, and her sharply-painted features make up her pale complexion, along with a molded, gold-leafed snood that holds her dark hair in a pleasant silhouette. She is as pretty as a picture with her pretty blue eyes and snood in her glossy black hair. She has dainty pursed lips and rosy cheeks. She lovely Goldsmith-type body with leather hands and boots and red-striped stockings. Her body is very old, but I cannot state with certainty that it is original. Note the patch that covers the upper half of her body to reinforce it for the head plate. Her leather arms are good, with her right arm having an old reinforcement patch around the elbow, protecting the seam where the leather and cloth meet. Note some fraying to the right hand fingertips. The left looks very good. Overall minor age wear to the cloth body. She is modeling a lovely 1855-style costume. She wears a snowy-white half-slip and pantaloons, both embellished with eyelet. This lovely lady is an impressive 26 inches. Her shoulder plate measures approximately 6-1/4″ tall by 5-1/4″ wide by 3 deep. I note a faint, tight hairline located along the back left portion of her shoulder plate. It is quite stable and not in at all loose in any way. Her sheer, pastel orange pink? Dress with black-lace trim displays a slight sun fade and repair to back of dress. For her 160 years, Mrs. Lincoln is a lovely doll, well deserving a place of honor in your antique China doll collection. Of course I will take great care in securing a safe journey to her new home! I do not sell junk. Unless otherwise noted, this item in very good condition for its age, solid and sturdy with normal signs of aging, use, scratches or imperfections.
