Exquisite 19 Gold & Porcelain Hand Painted Kwanyin Ruyi Scepter Lotus Guanyin
A very large and exquisite hand painted porcelain Bodhisattva Kwan-yin statue, Goddess of Mercy. The piece has a lustrous glaze with her face and hands being unglazed bisque porcelain. Kwanyin is wearing a long draping garment, meticulously beaded and lavishly gold plated. She wears a necklace and a crown and holds a golden sphere in her right hand and a gold Ruyi scepter in her left. The scepter is named for the phrase “Wan Shi Ru Yi” or “May everything turn out just as you want it to”. She stands on a bed of pink lotus and lily pads with a pair of gilt geese at her feet. I don’t know her age but I found a record of an old sale for one like this that indicated it was made in 1940 or before. On the front of the base are the gilt characters, or Jíxiáng, meaning lucky or auspicious. She is in wonderful vintage condition, every tiny bead intact and the delicate features like the fingers and flower petals perfect. The exception in her condition is a chip in the painted top part of her crown. It is an almost an unnoticeable flaw unless you know its there, see close up picture. There are a few stray touches of paint from the artist and light wear to the bottom. The bottom is unmarked and the whole statue stands 19″ tall by 8.5″ wide and weighs over 6 pounds, see picture with coke can for scale.
