The Hutschenreuther Karl Tutter “Bremen Town Musicians” figurine is a vintage collectible piece to the best if my ability (DO YOU’RE OWN RESEARCH) But what i had read it says it was made in 1950 – 1955 its made of porcelain, Has a gold stripe trim around the base, It standing at 8 inches tall. This figurine was created in Germany and features intricate details that bring to life the famous story of the Bremen Town Musicians. The figurine is IN MINT CONDITION, adding a unique touch to this decorative collectible. Perfect for collectors or those looking to add a touch of German craftsmanship to their home decor! It – like your porcelain figure – illustrates the Brothers Grimm story titled The Bremen Town Musicians. The story involves a donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster who are all past their working prime. The donkey can not haul, the dog can not hunt, the cat catches no mice, and the rooster is bound for the soup pot. The donkey is the first to run away, determining that he should go to Bremen and become a musician. He is soon joined by the others, and they set off for Bremen. On the way they witness thieves robbing a cottage. The animals stood themselves in a stack, peered in the window, and scared the robbers away by braying, barking, meowing, and cackling. The cat scratched him, the dog bit him, the donkey kicked him, and the rooster screeched at him. The robber fled, convinced that the cottage was inhabited by witches, ogres, and giants. Comfortably settled in the cottage, the band of animals stayed. They never made it to Bremen. The German Hutschenreuther porcelain company made your figure. Founded in 1814 by Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther in Bavaria, the firm expanded in 1857 when C. S son Lorenz opened a second factory in Selb in 1857. Under Lorenz’s guidance, the firm soon expanded from tableware to decorative figures. They became well known for the quality of their modelers and the exquisite colors and glazes employed. The animated modeling, expressive features and exquisite painting of the animals are typical for Hutschenreuther pieces. Your figure is well marked in green ink on the base, with stamped block letters reading Lorenz Hutschenreuther Kunsiastel Germany centering a lion in an oval. Austrian trained in drawing and painting, Tutter was held in a Russian prison camp for several years after World War I. He honed his art skills while imprisoned by painting portraits of Russian officers. After the war ended and until 1960, Tutter headed the art department at Hutschenreuther, where he modeled deco vases, plump cherubs, nudes, devils and animals. Your Bremen Town Musicians figure displays the dynamic animation characterizing most of Tutter’s works. Based on the specific style of the backstamp and production records, this particular figurine was manufactured during the 1950s (circa 1955). The circular green backstamp features a stylized lion in an oval with the year 1814. The Year (1814): The “1814” date printed directly inside the mark refers to the historical founding year of the original company. It does not mean the piece itself was made in 1814. Dating the Stamp: Variations of this specific circled lion mark with the text “HUTSCHENREUTHER GERMANY KUNSTABTEILUNG” were widely utilized mid-century, generally spanning from 1955 to 1969. The Art Division (Kunstabteilung)The printed words and the separate paper label read “Lorenz Hutschenreuther Kunstabteilung”. What it means: Kunstabteilung translates directly from German as “Art Department” or Art Division.

The plate in the image is a piece of Hutschenreuther china from Hohenberg, Bavaria. The green backstamp featuring a lion and the year “1814” indicates that the piece was manufactured by the Hutschenreuther Hohenberg factory between approximately 1901 and 1933. A second, competing factory was later established by his son Lorenz in Selb in 1857. Marking: The specific green underglaze mark with “Hutschenreuther” and “Hohenberg Bavaria” helps date the production period to the early 20th century.
