Exquisite 19 Gold & Porcelain Hand Painted Kwanyin Ruyi Scepter Lotus Guanyin
A very large and exquisite hand painted porcelain Bodhisattva Kwan-yin statue, Goddess of Mercy. The piece has a lustrous glaze with her face and hands being unglazed bisque porcelain. Kwanyin is wearing a long draping garment, meticulously beaded and lavishly gold plated. She wears a necklace and a crown and holds a golden sphere in her right hand and a gold Ruyi scepter in her left. The scepter is named for the phrase “Wan Shi Ru Yi” or “May everything turn out just as you want it to”. She stands on a bed of pink lotus and lily pads with a pair of gilt geese at her feet. I don’t know her age but I found a record of an old sale for one like this that indicated it was made in 1940 or before. On the front of the base are the gilt characters, or Jíxiáng, meaning lucky or auspicious. She is in wonderful vintage condition, every tiny bead intact and the delicate features like the fingers and flower petals perfect. The exception in her condition is a chip in the painted top part of her crown. It is an almost an unnoticeable flaw unless you know its there, see close up picture. There are a few stray touches of paint from the artist and light wear to the bottom. The bottom is unmarked and the whole statue stands 19″ tall by 8.5″ wide and weighs over 6 pounds, see picture with coke can for scale. Please visit our store for an eclectic collection of vintage and antique treasures. Please know all vintage has had a life before, but our goal is to find those treasures out there that still have a ton of life left! We inspect them thoroughly and will do our best to point out any noticeable flaws. States plus Washington, D. C and reserve the right to change the listed carrier depending on destination, I. Offered is this elegant set of FOUR fine porcelain china demitasse cups and saucers made in England by Royal Crown Derby. The pattern is Old Imari, no. The date code reads XLIII, which we dont know how to translate. However, we believe this set dates to the last part of the 20. This set depicts the traditional Imari decorating style, with patterns of cobalt and gold on a smooth white blank. Accent colors are Chinese-red with a touch of emerald-green. Gold trim decorates the handles, base and rims of the cups. Thin gold bands outline the white borders that separate the rectangular patterns on the top half of the cups. Gold decorates the rim and verge of the saucers. Gold bands also outline the white borders on the saucers. The saucers measure 4.5 inches in diameter (11.5 cm). The cups stand a bit over 2.25 inches high (5.8 cm) and measure 2 3/8 inches in diameter (6 cm). They will hold 4 ounces of espresso or other strong after-dinner coffee. These pieces are in excellent used condition with no damage that we have observed. Gold trim in excellent condition.
