Zeh Scherzer Bavaria Set of 2 Chargers Plates 12 Indian Tree w/Gold. Zeh Scherzer Set of 2 Chargers Plates Bavaria 12 Indian Tree w/Gold. A beautiful MATCHING SET of 2 CHARGERS , manufactured in Rehau, Bavaria, GERMANY by Z. Zeh Scherzer & Co. The history of Zeh, Scherzer & Company of Bavaria dates back to 1880 when it was established by 6 citizens of Rehau in northern Bavaria. By 1900, 70% of the production was exported to the USA. By 1992, production had ceased after a successful run of quality porcelain for over 100 years. The dark green mark with Z. Over BAVARIA was used between 1880 and 1882 according to Robert E. Rontgen’s Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain 1710 to the Present (mark #2468). Here is the most unique feature of this pair. These chargers match even though they were manufactured at least 48+ years apart. The colors are vivid and true on both. We can find no chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or other repairs. Both have one small black dot of coal ash kiln debris. We see no wear on the paint or gold. See the photos which magnify the pieces. The set displays beautifully and certainly is eye-catching and even functional. The diameter of each charger is 12 1/8. The newer charger is 1 1/8″ in height while the older one is 1/8″ higher at 1 1/4. You do not notice this difference unless the two are touching at the rims. As collectors ourselves, we tend to be very picky and find it necessary to point out anything we see. Upon very close examination of these two Indian Tree designs, we can find two minor differences. The older charger has one extra small pink leaf and the newer one has one stem that is cut slightly shorter. We believe you will be very satisfied with this beautiful pair and we challenge you to find the differences. On the older plate, the dot of coal ash is visible; but on the new one it occurs on the tree and appears to be a knot on the bark. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description. The stand was used as a photo prop and is not part of this listing. See additional international policies below. This is ready to use or display with pride in your home. We strive to have satisfied customers. Please view each photo carefully. We try to include enough information while noting any imperfections that we see. Request additional photos as needed. We deal primarily with antique and vintage items. Since these items are of considerable age, normal age appropriate wear can be expected and the items are not “new” or necessarily in “perfect” condition. These are beautiful plates. I have provided a picture of each individual plate so you can see the condition. There may be a tiny spot or so on the inner gold band. I have provided 3 sample close up pictures of what that may look like. There may be sticker residue on the center portion which will come off. The plates are large, measuring 10-1/2 in diameter. No chips or cracks. Here is a little history. The Lorenz Hutschenreuther and C. Hutschenreuther companies were two totally independent companies until their merger in 1969. Unsatisfied with just decorating, Hutschenreuther yearned to produce his own porcelain wares. After an eight-year struggle with the Bavarian government, which opposed competition to The Royal Manufactory at Nymphemburg, Hutschenreuther finally received the necessary permission in 1822. Hutschenreuther was responsible for bringing porcelain to the common man and was a pioneer of the modern German china industry. Hurschenreuther recruited artists, craftsmen, and sculptors from other European potteries. Upon his death in 1845, his widow Johanna carried on his work with the help of her two grown sons, Christian and Lorenz. A major fired destroyed the factory in 1848. It was quickly rebuilt. In 1857, Lorenz struck out on his own to establish the first porcelain factor in Ludwigsmühle (mill of Ludwig), which later became the town of Selb, known as the City of Porcelain. Lorenz’s company became Hutschenruether Selb. Lorenz focused on dinnerware and partnered with Haviland and Wedgwood. When Lorenz died in 1886, his sons Viktor and Eugen assumed control of the company. Hutschenreuther Selb acquired the Selb factories of Jaeger, Werner & Company in 1905 and the Paul Müller China Factory in 1917. Using the talents found in Müller’s art division, Hutschenreuther Selb began manufacturing figurines. In addition, students at the Selb Technical School of Porcelain were encouraged to design dinnerware and sculptures. The Bauscher Brothers Porcelain Factory and the Tischenreuth Porcelain Factory of Weiden were added in 1927. A year later, The Konigszeit Porcelain was acquired. Hutschenreuther also expanded during these years, acquiring a porcelain factory in Arzberg in 1880 and factories in Bohemia, Silesia, and Saxonia in the early 1900s. These factories were lost when Germany was divided after World War II. Hutschenreuther and created Huttschreuther AG. In early 1971, Hutschenreuther AG acquired a 50 percent interest in the Portuguese factory Sociedade de Porelanas Limitada in Coimbra. In 1972, Hutschenreuther merged with Porcelain Factory Kahla AG of Schonwald. This merger brought Kahla’s two crude ceramics factories into the business, along with the well-known trademarks Arzberg and Schonwald. In the late 1990s, Hutschenreuthr AG comprised 15 production sites with a workforce of over 6,00 employees. The company continues to produce dinnerware, ornaments, and sculptures. In 2000, Hutschenreuther became part of the Rosenthal Division of the Wedgwood Group.
