Hand potted Chinese porcelain export plates with delicate hand painted designs. Though the plates were for the western market, the Chinese still incorporated Chinese design sense and artifacts. The central well has three floral small paintings. The cavetto is painted with landscape scenes of rocks and old twisted tree trunks. The mouth and cavetto edge have gold bands. There is a shallow foot ring that is unglazed. The base is glazed. There is no decoration on the underside of the plates. Each plate was hand thrown, and hand painted in over glaze enamels. You can see the potters wheel marks on the base under the glaze. The body glaze is thin with an off-white coloring. The designs were painted in an iron wash with accents in gilt and black. 9 3/4 (27.6 cm) diameter x 1 5/8 (4.1 cm) tall. Weighs 2 lb 15.7 oz (895 g). Neither plate has any chips, hairline cracks, or breaks. Both plates have wear on the plates central surface and gilding on the edges. Both plates also have kiln flaws such as pimples and black spots. One plate also has a glaze separation on the base and flaws in the glaze on the front of the plate and back of the cavetto. They show up as a brown line but doesnt go through. For the age the colors on both plates are bright and fresh. An unusual design on these old export porcelain plates.
