Rare Antique (1920s) Pink Queen Anne English Bone China Gold Gilded Tea Set
Fantastic very rare pink colour antique (1920s) Queen Anne English fine bone china gold gilded twelve piece tea set in lovely condition generally without any chips or cracks or crazing other than a non malignant hairline crack in a single cup as shown in the last photograph attached. A superb set that has been in my family from the outset and I hope to find it a good home. The set is very generously gold gilded and despite its age it is in impeccable condition without any wear to the gold gilding. The photos are an accurate description. Queen Anne was one of the trade names of Shore & Coggins Limited who produced china ware in their Edensor Works, New Street and the High Street Works, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England. The firm dates back to 1887 when it was known as J. In 1905 a new partnership was formed with Shore, Coggins & Holt, this partnership survived 5 years until 1910 when John William Holt left and Shore & Coggins Limited was formed. (who were aquirinf a number of other pottery businesses). The Wild group expanded the business and intriduced the’Bell China’ trade name. Queen Anne’ and’Princess Anne’ trade names were introduced after the Second World War. In 1966 there was reorganisation of the Wild subsidiary companies (now under the control of Allied English Potteries) which included the closure of the works of Chapmans (Longton) Ltd and Shore & Coggins Ltd. The’Queen Anne’ trade name introduced around 1950 was used until the closure of the Edensor Works in 1966. The trade name was retained by Allied English Potteries Ltd and was used by Ridgway Potteries and was still in use by Royal Doulton in 1981. Rare & Absolutely Fantastic & Very Generously 24ct Gold Gilded Antique (1910) Limoges Haviland Fine Bone China Dinner Table Pieces. This is a superb rare set of elegant and delicate Art Nouveau Limoges Haviland bone china tableware that has been in my family from the outset. There are 14 perfect pieces (lidded Tureens counted as two pieces) and along with two extra free pieces they add up to 16 pieces as follows. 1 Round Tureen & Lid. 1 Oval Tureen & Lid. 2 Matching Cups & Saucers. Personal collection is preferred to avoid damage in transit as these are wonderfully delicate pieces and almost in perfect condition. They are absolutely superb. Limoges is a world renowned porcelain company. History of Limoges Porcelain. Marco Polo was credited with the discovery of the ceramic substance called “Porcelain” during his famous voyage to China. China was the only means of import for porcelain until the end of the 17th century. In the early 18th century Marquise de Pompadour began importing from china and manufacturing porcelain in France. Manufacture De Sevres’ began near Paris and became the largest porcelain distributor in Europe. Originally the white substance used to make the fine porcelain referred to as Limoges was discovered by a chemist’s wife in 1765 in hopes of being used as a soap. Yrieixin a town near Limoges France the substance was identified as a pure form of Kaolin. The soil of the area surrounding Limoges is rich in deposits of kaolin and feldspar, the essential ingredients for hard paste porcelain. In 1771 Limoges, one of the oldest towns in the French kingdom rapidly began constructing manufacturing facilities with wood burning kilns for the production of fine porcelain. The name of the city of Limoges has become synonymous with the high quality porcelain products manufactured by those early companies. The hand painting and decorating of Limoges porcelains was done by factory approved hired artists as well as other professional and unprofessional artists. The porcelain was used to create useful pieces and tableware such as plates, bowls, trays & pitchers. Pieces for entertaining guests, such as punch bowls, finial handled trays for treats, and tea sets. In addition fancy decorative pieces were produced such as dresser sets, plaques & vases. Haviland is one of the most popular manufactures of Limoges found within the United States. Since Haviland did clever marketing research based on contemporary design preferences with the United States, collectors find that many of the Limoges tableware passed down from grandmothers and great grandmothers in the states were produced by Haviland. If you are looking for any specific types of pieces you can search our inventory or let us know what you are looking for by adding watched items. True Quality Limoges pieces were produced between the late 1700’s until the 1930’s. Production of Limoges continued after 1930 but the quality hand painted objects changed due to global economics. The styles became much more basic also. When looking for hand painted Limoges porcelains, collectors concern themselves with artistically pleasing pieces in very good condition. Antique Limoges porcelain is considered the finest hard paste porcelain in the world because of three very specific characteristics. The first being the essential ingredients used in creating Limoges porcelain are all local natural ingredients, kaolin, feldspar & quartz. Then the intense firing process that forms the superb glaze that cannot be penetrated by the elements and gives Limoges porcelain that exquisite translucence. Finally, an abundance of skilled artists and the French flair for aristic design set a standard that other Europeans and American porcelain producers struggle to emulate. Please browse all 12 sets of photographs attached for size, weight and condition as they are self explanatory. Josiah Wedgwood and Sons, commonly known as Wedgwood, is amongst the worlds most famous fine china, porcelain, and luxury accessories company founded on 1 May 1759 by English potter and entrepreneur Josiah Wedgwood. Josiah, the youngest of 13 children, founded his company in 1759. He was a perfectionist who took 3,000 attempts to get just the right shades of chalky blue and sage green for his most popular Jasperware. He made his name when he manufactured a tea and coffee service for Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III. Her Majesty was so impressed she allowed Wedgwood to use the title Potter to the Queen. Soon other royal households, including Russia’s, were clamouring for Wedgwood pottery. Josiah was a benevolent employer who built good homes for his workers but he could also be a demanding taskmaster. If a vessel did not meet his exacting standards he would smash it and shout: This will not do for Wedgwood! His company became the first to innovate the perfect mixture of fine bone china which was both durable and beautiful to the touch. Before he succumbed to cancer in 1795 Wedgwood passed his company on to his sons. Many descendants were directly involved in the business over the years and it thrived throughout the 19th and most of the 20th century. Were it not for a bout of smallpox the name of Josiah Wedgwood would have been lost in the mists of time. The disease severely weakened his leg and he was unable to work the pedal of his potter’s wheel. Faced with the loss of his livelihood the enterprising apprentice turned instead to designing ceramics. Josiah had a keen eye and an interest in the latest advances, such as new glazes. His designs were unlike the typical clunky wares on the market in the early 18th century and were soon gracing the homes of the aristocracy and royal palaces. Production at Etruria Works in Stokeon-Trent, Staffordshire, could barely keep pace with demand. Quite simply Wedgwood is considered the finest potter to have lived and his name is famous far beyond these English shores. The vast Wedgwood collection of pottery, art and manuscripts is regarded as one of the most important industrial archives in the world. The names were merged to become Waterford Wedgwood with a workforce of almost 8,000 at its peak but its fortunes began to decline. On 2 July 2015, Fiskars Corporation acquired WWRD. Original UK made Wedgewood products are now real collectors items as production of English porcelain has mostly moved abroad to the Far East.
