Vintage Hand Painted Japanese Ceramic Porcelain Lusterware 16 Piece Tea Set. Hand Painted, Golden Gilt, and Rare. This is an amazing 16 piece hand painted Lusterware porcelain tea set made in Japan. We believe this type of ceramic porcelain is called “Lusterware” because of its distinct iridescent or pearlescent look which reflects rainbow colors in certain lighting. We used 5 point lighting (3 spot lights, a flood lamp, and natural sunlight) to capture the iridescent, rainbow colors of the luster porcelain. The Pitcher is approximately 7 1/2″ tall by approximately 9 1/2″ from tip of spout to handle. The Creamer is approximately 4″ tall by approximately 5″ from tip of spout to handle. The Sugar Bowl is approximately 5 1/2″ tall by approximately 6 3/4″ in diameter. The Large Plates (of which there are six) are approximately 7 1/4 in diameter. The Saucers (small plates) (of which there are six) are approximately 5 1/2 in diameter. The cup (of which there one) is approximately 3 1/2 in diameter. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. There are 2 large plates that have similar wear. A 3rd large plate has some similar wear but not nearly as much. The image on the right shows the bottom side of the Cup. The image on the right shows the bottom side of the Pitcher/Teapot. The Pitcher/Teapot and Sugar Bowl have similar iridescent luster. See description above for lighing. Some minor and some noticeable wear. Two of the large plates have a section of the gold gilt design that is considerably worn. It looks like there is normal minor wear of coloring / gilt on the pitcher/teapot handle but this may simply be the intended design look. I can’t be certain.
