Antique Asian Porcelain Blue &White Translucent Rice Bowls with Red/Orange and Gold Patterns. This beautiful Asian, porcelain translucent rice bowl set is in nice pre-owned/vintage condition. Named after the technique used to make it “rice” or rice grain porcelain, it refers to a technique, where rice was pressed in a pattern into the dish before it was fired – The high heat burns the rice away thus leaving a pattern – After firing, the glaze collected in the holes will result in the decorative pattern appearing translucent when held against a light source, while the rest of the surface does not allow light to pass through. They are beautifully decorated with a floral design in white-blue-red/orange- and gold colors and, the translucent rice are around on the sides of bowls. Bottom of bowls are marked in blue (I don’t know the meaning). Cracking and crazing free but some pieces might have some flaws specially the bowls and two of them. Have some chipping on bottom..
