Amazing set of 92 pieces. The Amhurst is a timeless pattern that epitomizes the Mid-Century luxury aesthetic. This rare set is labeled with Imperial’s “Warranted 22K Gold” mark, and was most likely produced in the late 1940’s or 1950’s. The traditional elegance of the Amhurst design along with the use of real gold make it a perfect for special occasions, holidays, and entertaining. The pieces were primarily marketed as luxury dinnerware but also served as decorative heirloom-quality items. This set is in amazing vintage condition. The gold gilding (which is often degraded due to improper care) is beautifully preserved and unfaded. The dishes are free of chips, cracks, or heavy utensil marks. Most pieces have light crazing, and there is some light discoloration in some pieces. Please note – One cup had two chips that have been repaired with Milliput, and there was one small chip on the base of the creamer that has been repaired as well. I would typically find a single cup on the Internet and complete the set, but due to the rarity of this design, I opted for repair. The last picture in this listing shows these two pieces with the repaired areas. There is a very small chip on the inside of the lid of the sugar bowl. This heirloom set is perfect for display, those special formal occasions, or elegant family dining. As with any gilded porcelain, the dishwasher should be avoided as it will degrade the beauty of the gold! Although sometimes labeled “Imperial USA”, these sets were produced in Japan for the luxury dining market in the US. The Amhurst pattern was not marked as Imperial China, but with its own unique Amhusrt mark (Please see photos).
