Max Roesler RMR (Blue Mark) DRESDEN Porcelain Woven Basket w/ Gilt Gold Handle. RMR Woven Basket is in nice condition. Very minor gilt gold loss. Stamped RMR, #1086/3, and Incised Rose Mark. These marks are the. Oldest from the potters work here. Max Roesler was born in 1840 in Regensburg. He studied chemistry in Dresden but finally he graduated in Munich. Max gained experience working for a chemical plant in Blasewitz and in 1864 became a chemist, merchant and technical director at a chemical plant in Elbogen. The change came in 1873 when he became a technical director at the Franz Anton Mehlem stoneware factory in Bonn. In the following year Max Roesler started working for the mosaic tiles factory in Sinzig and months later he bacame a technical and commercial director of the Wächtersbach stoneware factory. In 1890 Roesler moved to the Springer porcelain factories in Elbogen, Bohemia. Finally in 1893 he and his family moved to Rodach near Coburg. Max Roesler founded in Coburg his own earthenware factory in 1894. In 1910, after death of Roesler’s son, the firm was transformed into a public limited company Max Roesler Feinsteingutfabrik AG. Max Roesler died in 1922. In 1938 the company was taken over by Siemens. Max Roesler’s firm used a family coat of arms (a hedge rose) as its emblem. Max Roesler RMR blue rose mark used from 1894.

Chinese export vase with gilt foo lion handles. Decorated using famille rose palette. Dates to mid 19th century, during the Qing Dynasty. Famille Rose porcelain is decorated with predominantly pink enamels, first used by adding colloidal gold to the glaze. The style has been used in China since the mid 18th century. Famille rose, which translates from French as pink family, is a type of Chinese porcelain most popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. Known as yangcai in China, for “foreign colors, ” it is characterized by pink overglaze low-fired enamel but may also include other soft complementary colors. The color range for this palette was first produced by mixing colored enamels with an opaque white. Measures (without lamp parts) approx: 12″ x 4″ x 4. Small crack at base (see pics).

Rare and unusual set of 12 antique plates, origin and maker unknown, and believe me, I have done a lot of research on these! The only marks on the back are a hand-incised “69 A” and a crosshatch mark on a few. My educated guess is that these are either French or German and made to order for a royal or noble-born family, based on the calligraphic monogram on all the plates. The monogram looks to me like “VP” but I will let you be the judge. They have pin marks on the back with prominent feet, so they probably date to the late 19th century. These plates measure 8 1/2″ in diameter so are appropriately called “luncheon plates. They have a gold symbol/ crest in the center of the white floor. The flange is a creamy yellow color and on top of that are gold and white embossed feathery designs, with a thin gold edge and verge. The monogram is at 12:00 at the top of the plates. This is mostly in the center crest and around the verge/ trim. But the monograms have held up well, and there are no other chips or cracks, so these were well-cared for and have a great sense of history. They came from a fine historical estate on the Gold Coast of Long Island. Please feel free to ask any questions or provide any knowledge about these plates if you might be able to help!
