This stunning piece is a highly collectible 3-piece English Regency era soup tureen set with its original matching underplate/tray and lid. Produced by the renowned Staffordshire pottery firm Hicks & Meigh circa 1815, this exquisite set features an elaborate blue and white Chinoiserie transferware pattern inspired by traditional Chinese export porcelain styles. The structural architecture of this set represents the pinnacle of Regency-era ceramic craftsmanship, utilizing complex, multi-part molds. The Lid (Cover): Features a highly sculptural, open-work flower-bud finial handle rising from an ornate, molded leaf-scroll acanthus base. It includes a built-in ladle notch at the rim. The Tureen Body: A robust, oval neo-classical form featuring elegant vertical ribbing. The body is flanked by two heavy, rustic branch-form handles that mimic organic gnarled twigs. The tureen stands proudly elevated on four distinctively molded, stylized bracket feet heavily accented with gold leaf. The Underplate (Stand): A wide, deep-welled oval platter featuring a gently scalloped rim and twin branch-form handles that mirror the tureen. Given that this set is over 200 years old, it exhibits a beautiful patina and age-appropriate wear that showcases its history. Structure: Please review the photos carefully. Please note a visible through-crack running along the width of the lid. There is a small visible hairline crack on the inside of the tureen. The underplate has no visible cracks. There are areas of gilt loss in some areas consistent with the products historical age. There are Some small nicks or pinholes on under tray. Glaze & Finish: Features a deep cobalt blue transfer finish under a glossy clear glaze. The underplate/tureen/lid exhibit some historic glaze flaking and localized glaze loss along the raised structural ridge, accompanied by light, expected age-related under-glaze discoloration (tea-staining) as shown. The underlying ceramic body remains entirely solid and stable. Due to its age and historic glaze composition, it is not recommended for modern food service or microwave/dishwasher use. An Elegant Decorative Set of 6 RIMMED SOUP BOWLS from KPM Waldenberg, Silesia, Germany (Now Poland), FLORAL Sprays of ROSES and Other Flowers w/GREEN LEAVES, GOLD Trim on Scalloped Rims, EMBOSSED, circa 1950’s. DESCRIPTION: The beautiful set of 6 rimmed soup bowls has 3 main sprays of roses with other flowers. The center of the bowls has another smaller spray. The color palette used is pink, green, white, yellow, blue and red w/gold. The wide rim part of the bowl is heavily embossed in swirls whereas the center of the bowl is smooth and unembossed. These look very elegant. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, its condition is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. These are clean & white on the back. The gold is in exceptional condition. DIMENSIONS: The bowls have a diameter of 8 1/4″ with a height of 1 5/8″. He was a painter and decorator of porcelain who was also a kaolin deposit owner. Though his original intent was to emulate the designs and benefit from the reputation of the’Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur’ (KPM) in Berlin, the quality of his porcelain was such high quality that he obtained his own clientele of wealthy patrons and won numerous awards at porcelain exhibitions, particularly in Paris. Upon his death in 1867, the pottery went to the Haenschke heirs who further improved the factory to the point that in 1913 it employed 800 workers. The heirs decided to change it into a limited corporation in 1920 and by 1921, it was acquired by the Rosenthal Group who continued the current mark usage until 1927. After WWII, the factory was nationalized and was renamed in 1952 to Porcelana Stolowa Krzysztof. The tradenames Wavel and Wiza were introduced in the mid-1950’s.
