Zeh Scherzer Bavaria Set of 2 Chargers Plates 12 Indian Tree w/Gold. Zeh Scherzer Set of 2 Chargers Plates Bavaria 12 Indian Tree w/Gold. A beautiful MATCHING SET of 2 CHARGERS , manufactured in Rehau, Bavaria, GERMANY by Z. Zeh Scherzer & Co. The history of Zeh, Scherzer & Company of Bavaria dates back to 1880 when it was established by 6 citizens of Rehau in northern Bavaria. By 1900, 70% of the production was exported to the USA. By 1992, production had ceased after a successful run of quality porcelain for over 100 years. The dark green mark with Z. Over BAVARIA was used between 1880 and 1882 according to Robert E. Rontgen’s Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain 1710 to the Present (mark #2468). Here is the most unique feature of this pair. These chargers match even though they were manufactured at least 48+ years apart. The colors are vivid and true on both. We can find no chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or other repairs. Both have one small black dot of coal ash kiln debris. We see no wear on the paint or gold. See the photos which magnify the pieces. The set displays beautifully and certainly is eye-catching and even functional. The diameter of each charger is 12 1/8. The newer charger is 1 1/8″ in height while the older one is 1/8″ higher at 1 1/4. You do not notice this difference unless the two are touching at the rims. As collectors ourselves, we tend to be very picky and find it necessary to point out anything we see. Upon very close examination of these two Indian Tree designs, we can find two minor differences. The older charger has one extra small pink leaf and the newer one has one stem that is cut slightly shorter. We believe you will be very satisfied with this beautiful pair and we challenge you to find the differences. On the older plate, the dot of coal ash is visible; but on the new one it occurs on the tree and appears to be a knot on the bark. KPM Silesia Poland 6 Rimmed Soup Bowls Wavel Floral Sprays Roses w/Gold 1950’s. An Elegant Decorative Set of 6 RIMMED SOUP BOWLS from KPM Waldenberg, Silesia, Germany (Now Poland), FLORAL Sprays of ROSES and Other Flowers w/GREEN LEAVES, GOLD Trim on Scalloped Rims, EMBOSSED, circa 1950’s. DESCRIPTION: The beautiful set of 6 rimmed soup bowls has 3 main sprays of roses with other flowers. The center of the bowls has another smaller spray. The color palette used is pink, green, white, yellow, blue and red w/gold. The wide rim part of the bowl is heavily embossed in swirls whereas the center of the bowl is smooth and unembossed. These look very elegant. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, its condition is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. These are clean & white on the back. The gold is in exceptional condition. DIMENSIONS: The bowls have a diameter of 8 1/4″ with a height of 1 5/8″. He was a painter and decorator of porcelain who was also a kaolin deposit owner. Though his original intent was to emulate the designs and benefit from the reputation of the’Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur’ (KPM) in Berlin, the quality of his porcelain was such high quality that he obtained his own clientele of wealthy patrons and won numerous awards at porcelain exhibitions, particularly in Paris. Upon his death in 1867, the pottery went to the Haenschke heirs who further improved the factory to the point that in 1913 it employed 800 workers. The heirs decided to change it into a limited corporation in 1920 and by 1921, it was acquired by the Rosenthal Group who continued the current mark usage until 1927. After WWII, the factory was nationalized and was renamed in 1952 to Porcelana Stolowa Krzysztof. The tradenames Wavel and Wiza were introduced in the mid-1950’s. DESCRIPTION: The beautiful ewer pitcher was hand painted by a talented artist using a purple, blue & green palate on satin ivory. The highlights on the floral sprays are gold paint. The flowers pop out at you. The dragon handle is painted in solid gold and the rims are trimmed in gold. CONDITION: While this ewer is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. There is a little wear on the gold as is age appropriate; this is only in one spot on the handle which you can easily see in the enlarged photos. DIMENSIONS: The ewer has a diameter of 3 1/2″ and a height of 7 5/8″ at the tip of the spout. HISTORY/MARKS: The company of Lazarus Straus & Sons was founded in 1869 and successfully specialized in the import and resale of glass and ceramics. By 1874, Nathan Straus (son of Lazarus) convinced Macy’s to allow the shop-in-shop chinaware departments in all their stores. So successful was the venture that they formed the U. Based New York & Rudolstadt Pottery Company, Inc. To import from the Rudolstadt Works in Thurginia, Germany. The now famous RW mark was first registered on May 22, 1896 and stands for Rudolstadt Works with slightly different versions being used from 1904 until 1924.
