Vintage hand-painted porcelain covered compote / candy dish, dated 1960 and signed by the artist Dorothy R. Classic mid-century American “China Painting” – hand-painted floral decoration on blank porcelain, fired in a kiln, making each piece a unique one-of-a-kind artwork. The compote has a shallow wide bowl on a pedestal foot, with a domed lid topped by a tiered gold-gilt finial. The entire piece is hand-painted with pink roses and green leaves on a soft blue watercolor-wash background: a cluster of 4-5 roses on the lid, additional roses on the bowl exterior, and a single rose on the lid interior. Rim and lid edge trimmed in gold. The base bears a hand-written black ink signature: 1960 Dorothy R. Condition: Overall intact, no cracks or major chips. Gold trim on rim shows natural age wear.
